A Ramsey man with a history of domestic violence convictions is wanted in Anoka County after investigators say he strangled his ex-girlfriend during a confrontation earlier this week in Coon Rapids.
According to a criminal complaint filed Friday in Anoka County District Court, Lucas John Olson, 35, is charged with domestic assault by strangulation and felony domestic assault. The court has issued a warrant for his arrest.
Police say on October 16, 2025, officers were called to 11155 Robinson Drive Northwest after a woman identified as K.M.R. reported that Olson had shown up at her home unannounced the previous night. She told officers that Olson banged on her door for about five minutes before she opened it, and the two began arguing over documents he accused her of stealing.
During the argument, Olson allegedly grabbed her by the throat and pinned her against the wall, cutting off her ability to breathe for about a minute. The victim told police she and Olson had dated for six months and ended their relationship in December 2023.
Investigators noted Olson’s extensive history of domestic violence-related convictions, including a 2019 conviction for violating an order for protection in Kandiyohi County, a 2024 domestic assault conviction in Wright County, and a 2024 conviction for violating a domestic abuse no contact order, also in Wright County.
Because of those prior cases and the seriousness of the current allegations, prosecutors requested that the court issue a “body only” warrant—meaning Olson is to be held in custody once located until bail or other conditions of release can be determined.
Judge Karin McCarthy signed the warrant on October 17, 2025.
If convicted, Olson faces up to three years in prison and a $5,000 fine for the strangulation charge, and up to five years and a $10,000 fine for the felony domestic assault count.
The case was investigated by the Coon Rapids Police Department and is being prosecuted by the Anoka County Attorney’s Office.
