Fridley Man Facing Multiple Misdemeanor Assault Charges After Domestic Disturbance

A Fridley man is scheduled to appear in Anoka County District Court next month after prosecutors filed five misdemeanor charges stemming from a late-night domestic disturbance that left a woman bruised and a child injured.

According to a complaint filed October 8, 2025, Chavod Zantez Daniel, 30, has been charged with two counts of domestic assault, two counts of fifth-degree assault, and one count of disorderly conduct. The charges carry a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine on each count.

Midnight 911 Call

The case began around 12:54 a.m. on September 19, 2025, when Fridley police were dispatched to Daniel’s apartment at 5760 East River Road NE. A caller reported screaming and said the suspect had “just beat up the reporting party in front of her daughter.” Officers were told the suspect fled in a white Jeep heading south on East River Road.

Police located the Jeep and arrested Daniel, but released him shortly after when they could not reach the alleged victim by phone.

Victim Comes Forward

The following morning, the victim — identified in court records as K.L. — appeared at the Fridley Police Department with her 8-year-old daughter, O.A.A.. Officers noted K.L. had visible bruising under both eyes.

She reported that Daniel had demanded she sleep in his bed rather than on the couch, and when she refused, he accused her of insulting him. He then allegedly punched her in the face, shoved her into a closet, and forced her into the hallway.

The victim told police Daniel also grabbed her daughter by the arm and shoved her into the hall. The child confirmed the account, telling officers the shove hurt and left a red mark.

Injury Dispute

Initially, K.L. told investigators she believed her nose was broken. A felony-level assault charge was filed in a separate case on that basis. However, medical records later showed no fracture. The Anoka County Attorney’s Office then pursued misdemeanor charges in this case, citing the physical injuries and fear caused to both the victim and the child.

Court Proceedings

Daniel has been summoned to appear in court for an arraignment hearing on November 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. before Judge Jennifer Peterson. The hearing will be conducted remotely via Zoom.

If convicted, Daniel faces potential jail time, fines, and probation.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based solely on Anoka County District Court filings dated October 8 and October 9, 2025.
