Blaine Man Charged With Felony After Fleeing Police in High-Speed Pursuit

A 26-year-old Blaine man is facing a felony charge after prosecutors say he sped away from officers during a traffic stop, ignored lights and sirens, and only pulled over after a short pursuit through city streets.

According to a criminal complaint filed October 10, 2025, Brandon Michael Roberts has been charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a felony punishable by up to three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

Traffic Complaint Leads to Chase

The case began on the evening of October 9, 2025, when Blaine police received reports of a dark blue GMC Terrain repeatedly speeding and squealing its tires on Lincoln Street NE. Officers soon located the SUV, which matched the caller’s description and carried license plates registered to Roberts.

Police observed the Terrain racing through a Kwik Trip parking lot, failing to signal, and not stopping at the lot’s exit. Officers activated their emergency lights, but the vehicle continued driving. Despite sirens and repeated signals — including spotlight beams and chirped sirens — the SUV did not stop.

The chase continued westbound after the vehicle rolled through a stop sign at 87th Avenue NE. Officers eventually pulled alongside, activated their siren again, and finally got the driver to stop.

Driver Identified

Officers identified the driver as Roberts, who was taken into custody without further incident.

Detention and Conditional Release

Judge Jennifer Stanfield signed an order of detention on October 10, holding Roberts in custody pending his first court appearance.

A subsequent conditional release order allowed Roberts to be released without posting bond, but under strict requirements: he must remain law-abiding, have no contact with firearms or ammunition, abstain from alcohol and mood-altering substances, and submit to chemical testing if ordered.

Evidence and Prosecution Strategy

Court filings show prosecutors intend to rely on evidence obtained from search and seizure, observations by law enforcement, and statements made by Roberts during the incident.

The state has also filed a request for disclosure, requiring the defense to notify prosecutors of any witnesses, expert testimony, or alternative defenses such as alibi.

Upcoming Court Date

Roberts is scheduled for an omnibus hearing on November 14, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Justin M. Collins in Anoka County District Court.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This report is based solely on official documents filed in Anoka County District Court, October 2025.
