Blaine Man Arrested in Anoka for Driving Without Required Ignition Interlock Device

A Blaine man is facing multiple charges after police say he was caught driving in Anoka early Friday morning despite having a revoked license and a court-ordered ignition interlock requirement.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Anoka County District Court, Mason Michael Hedlund, 33, has been charged with two gross misdemeanors — driving after revocation while required to participate in the ignition interlock program and driving without an ignition interlock device — along with a misdemeanor charge for failing to provide proof of insurance.

The complaint states that around 2:04 a.m. on October 17, 2025, Anoka Police Sergeant Algiers was on patrol near East Main Street and 7th Avenue when he noticed a vehicle with dark window tint and partially open windows. A routine check revealed the registered owner, Hedlund, had a revoked driver’s license and was required to use an ignition interlock device.

After confirming the driver’s identity through a state photo database, the officer conducted a traffic stop. Hedlund admitted his license was revoked and that the vehicle was not equipped with the required interlock device. He also told the officer he was aware of the restriction and could not provide proof of insurance.

Hedlund was arrested and taken to the Anoka County Jail, where he was booked on the charges. Judge Karin McCarthy signed an order of detention later that morning, keeping him in custody pending further proceedings.

If convicted, Hedlund faces up to one year in jail and fines of up to $3,000 for each gross misdemeanor count, in addition to potential penalties for the insurance violation.

The case was investigated by the Anoka Police Department and is being prosecuted by the Anoka City Attorney’s Office.
