An Andover man is facing multiple charges after deputies say they found him slumped over in his pickup truck with a loaded handgun nearby and a blood-alcohol concentration more than twice the legal limit.
According to a complaint filed October 10, 2025, in Anoka County District Court, Joshua Stephen Lenzmeier, 22, has been charged with third-degree driving while impaired with a blood alcohol level of .16 or higher, a gross misdemeanor; carrying a pistol while under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor; and fourth-degree driving while impaired, also a misdemeanor.
Welfare Check Turns Into DWI Arrest
Shortly after midnight on October 10, a passerby called 911 to report a man slumped over the wheel of a Ford F-150 at the entrance to Ham Lake City Park. Anoka County Sheriff’s Deputy Trupe arrived within minutes and found the vehicle running, headlights on, and partially off the roadway.
Inside, deputies discovered Lenzmeier unconscious in the driver’s seat, slumped over the center console. On the console, just inches from his hands and face, sat an unholstered Glock 19 handgun with a full magazine inserted. The deputy ordered Lenzmeier to show his hands before he eventually complied.
Signs of Impairment
Once awake, Lenzmeier showed signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes, slurred responses, and the odor of alcohol. He admitted to drinking but would only say “not much.” Deputies conducted field sobriety tests, where officers observed multiple clues of impairment.
A portable breath test showed an alcohol concentration of .147. Later, at the Blaine Police Department, a DataMaster test registered .17, more than twice Minnesota’s legal limit of .08.
Firearm Violation
In addition to the DWI, prosecutors charged Lenzmeier with carrying a firearm while intoxicated. The Glock, though not chambered, was loaded with a full magazine and within immediate reach when deputies found him.
Court Action and Release
Judge Jennifer Stanfield signed an order for detention on October 10, keeping Lenzmeier in custody pending his first court appearance.
Later that day, a conditional release order was filed with restrictions: no alcohol or controlled substance use, no possession of firearms or ammunition, and compliance with chemical testing.
Lenzmeier is scheduled to appear for his initial court hearing on November 18, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Jennifer Peterson in Anoka County District Court.
If convicted of the gross misdemeanor DWI, he faces up to 364 days in jail and a $3,000 fine. The firearm charge and misdemeanor DWI each carry penalties of up to 90 days in jail and $1,000 fines.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based solely on official filings in Anoka County District Court dated October 10, 2025.
