Brooklyn Center Man Charged in Anoka County with Felony Strangulation After Violent Assault

A Brooklyn Center man is in custody after prosecutors say he assaulted a woman in Anoka County, choking her until she lost consciousness and threatening her life with a knife.

According to a criminal complaint filed October 7, 2025, Clinton Agustas Morrison, 44, faces a felony count of domestic assault by strangulation and a misdemeanor count of domestic assault. The most serious charge carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine.

The Alleged Assault

The complaint states that on October 6, 2025, Centennial Lakes police were called to an apartment on Syndicate Avenue in Anoka County after neighbors heard a woman screaming on her balcony. A witness told officers he found the woman visibly afraid of Morrison and ordered him to leave. Morrison was later arrested in Brooklyn Park.

The victim told investigators that Morrison, who had access to her apartment code, entered unannounced to discuss their relationship and living arrangements. When she told him she no longer wanted to move in together, he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and squeezed until she passed out.

When she regained consciousness on the couch, Morrison allegedly brandished a knife from the kitchen and told her: “I am either going to jail or you are going to the morgue.” The woman reported that she feared he would kill her, and she repeated to deputies that she believed her life was in danger.

Court Orders and Custody

Judge Jennifer Stanfield signed an order for detention on October 7, keeping Morrison in custody pending further proceedings. He has since been placed under conditional release restrictions, including enrollment in the Intensive Domestic Assault Pretrial Program (IDAPP) and a no-contact order with the victim. Morrison is scheduled for an initial appearance in Anoka County District Court on November 18, 2025, at 1:30 p.m., before Judge Michele A. Davis.

Evidence and Prosecution

Prosecutors noted in their filings that evidence in the case includes items obtained during a lawful search as well as direct observations of the defendant. The state has also requested full disclosure of any alibi, witnesses, or expert testimony Morrison’s defense team intends to present.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This report is based solely on official court filings in Anoka County District Court.
